The leading Czech opera singer is going to perform one of the most famous baritone roles – Figaro the Friar from 13 February at the Vienna State Opera.
The Viennese production of Gioachino Rossini’s La Figaro di Siviglia will take place in February, originally directed by Herbert Fritsch and conducted by Diego Matheuze, in a series of four performances: on 13, 16, 19 and 22 February. In addition to Adam Plachetka, who will play the role of Figaro, there will be Lawrence Brownlee as Almaviva, Patrizia Nolz as Rosini, Adam Palka as Don Basilio and others.
“Rossini’s Figaro is meeting me for the umpteenth time in my career. I sang the role in a previous Vienna production. I also remember very fondly Lazebnik at the Chicago Opera, where I went through the entire rehearsal process and both Figaro and I bonded beautifully. I have also staged La Figaro at the National Theatre in Prague and I am going there again next season to see Figaro,” says Adam Plachetka, who is fresh from his engagement at the Metropolitan Opera in New York as Marcello in Puccini’s La Boheme. “It’s an even more interesting experience for me because I previously sang the role of a real grouch – Don Basilio. Figaro, like the other figures in this opera, requires a great deal of acting and singing, a sense of comedy and exaggeration, and I really enjoy that. In addition, Rossini has endowed Figaro with a technically demanding but very effective cavatina, Largo al factotum, about how indispensable a lazaretto like Figaro is, so what more could you ask for.”
